Revolutionary Army building up
Here's a picture of some of my efforts painting up a revolutionary army for fighting Poles and Whites with. Unfortunately this is the only marginally clear picture. In the middle of the picture, you can see there are about 19 regular "ragtag Red" infantry stands, basically painted as if they were WWI era with a few red stars here and there. These are good midlevel troops for the Red side in almost every theatre of war between 1919 and 1923. They all came from one plastic HaT WWI russian box.
In the forground is ONE sprue of heavy weapons from the HaT WWI heavy weapons box. Each sprue generates a couple of leader stands and 2 HQ units. In the back you can see the start of the Konarmiya cavalry-- 12 stands regulars iwth the Budonovka hat and greatcoat, 6 Terek cossacks.
Since I took this my Naval Infantry has been finished (by Hoarde Painting, Steve does a great job!) and I need to take better pictures of the cavalry. Fortunately I have some handy right now...
This is a sample of what I have now, based for Red Actions. (note: the bases will be flocked with flocking gel, so they will not be bare wood for a real wargame)
That's Revolutionary Naval soldiers on the left, Tereck Cossacks and Konarmiya (right) in the back (I have 18 stands of cavalary and don't intend to get any more). Regular "Red Infantry" in front of the, and some support weapons from the army. Note the individual leader figures for the Navy and Army. Everything but the Sailors is plastic.
More of the same, a little closer.
That's the Tereck Cossacks (I have six stands of them, for 1/3 of the Konarmiya) with the red cuffs, and regular cav (blue trimmed khakisih greatcoat with blue trim) in the background, some "revolutionary rag-tags" up front). All plastic. Navy on the left (IT Figures 20mm).
Closer in on the support weapons, from HaT's "Russian Heavy Weapons" WWI pack. Note the single leader. The heavy weapons pack generated a lot of extra leader style figures. The figure in blue pants is meant to be a higher scale leader, in charge of several sections.
