Wired Geese
If you have a second, check out the Wildfowl and Wetland's Trust SUPERGOOSE page.
The BBC and WWT are doing a documentary on the migratory patterns of 10 Light-bellied Brent Geese, named Orville, Louis, Arthur, Douglas, Floyd, Alberto, Howard, CBBC1, CBBC2 and CBBC3. Brent Geese routinely migrate between arctic Canada and Ireland, stopping off at Iceland and Greenland along the way.
This may not seem to be edge of the chair thrilling material but the fun begins when you check out their location on the interactive map. Each goose has a transponder that feeds their exact location to the web map. Very interesting information to track. For on thing, the Geese don't all fly together and are not part of a single flight. Some stopped in Iceland, some in Greenland, some are already in Canada. SUPERGOOSE is a fascinating project that is worth checking out!
