Ruthless Teutonic Efficiency at its best

The two photos below were taken at a new parking garage in Munich (see NOTE below). The actual space that the facility occupies is approximately only 20% of a comparable facility with the traditional design that is used primarily in the US. Not only is the German structure less expensive to build, but vehicles are also retrieved in less time and without the potential of being damaged by an attendant.

Of course, it wouldn't work in the land of gas guzzling behomeths, SUVs and Hummers. But a lot of people are wising up to the reprecussions of 3 dollars a gallon and starting to get smaller cars.

NOTE: Limegirl from the Limeworld website courteously points out that the structure above is actually at the Volkwagen Autostadt facility, and has been erroneously reported as a "Munich Parking Garage". My bad! That will teach me to use the first Google hit I find! Gulp!

As she points out, the false attribution does not deter from my admiration of the concept itself.
