I promised I'd stay off this topic... but I can't resist

Nasty electioneering

In the rumor has it department...
ballot box stuffing? graphic
I got word from a reputable dealer who has been in the business a very long time (and the author of at least two history books), that a BoD member up for election this year was recently seen at NASHCON, saying for all to hear, that:

"________ told me at Nashcon that Fred Haub was stuffing the ballot box by sending out pre-printed ballots marked with his name and that somebody contacted the board to see if they could get some more of those pre-printed ballots marked with Fred's name. "

Aside from the fact that this sounds supiciously like a notorious old anecdote about ballot box stuffing that makes the rounds every year, I had to break my own moritorium about posting on the elections to poke holes in this one. First of all, FRED HAUB ISN'T EVEN RUNNING THIS YEAR!!!! Why the hell would he want to 'stuff the ballot box' when it avails him nothing?

From what I know... (KNOW.. heard from Fred himself), the ballot issue was that he prepared a ballot for a member deploying overseas that really wanted to get a vote in before he left. Fred certainly handled that particular ballot improperly, and for that reason he doesn't come off smelling like a rose, yet there certainly was no ballot box stuffing. For what possible reason would an offseason candidate bother doing such a thing??? If you hear this rumor.. ask the person telling you this has anyone actually seen a doctored ballot? Can they present it as evidence?

Let's at least keep the lies straight, guys. Or come up with something original-- this one is a retread from what, 1999? My head is starting to spin.

I know I said I'd avoid this topic like a plague until the election is over, but face it, it probably is by now.. Somebody we know will be singing his swan song shortly.
