Garage Sale FodderI got dragged out to various yard sales Saturday morning, as Gar was with his grandmother and Annie out camping with the girl scouts. I actually don't turn my nose up at yard sales. I have found many interesting gaming items as people clean out the detritus of their lives and their basements.
Saturday was no exception.
Item one: Magnetic Playing Cards. I didn't know such things existed. What I'll use them for is anyone's guess.. but ON a guess, they might make for a fun method of figuring out PLAYER INITIATIVE for miniature wargames. Just musing, I could make the players all stand about two to three feet away from the magnetic board (see picture) and flip the cards at the board. Whichever command sticks, goes. Whichever command sticks HIGHER than any other, goes FIRST. If a card covers another card.. something happens. I'll work something out.
Item two: Classic German Chess clock.. beautiful design, wind up type.
Dunno what I'll use this for, maybe for some sort of timed turn experimental game or something. I've never been a huge afficienado of speed chess (I make my decisions quickly enough, to my chagrin), but it may have an application that I haven't thought of yet. I'll just ask myself:
WWOD? (
What would Otto do?) and I'll find an anser.
Magnetic card set retails for:
forty dollars. My price: one dollar.
Chess Clock retails for: ninety-five dollars (sticker on box was for that much, but they can go for cheaper). My price: one dollar.
Not a bad day's work. I also found STATIS PRO FOOTBALL for a buck. I don't think I'll keep it. Nice design, I guess, but not my cup of tea. Probably ebay fodder.
