Not really the BBC, not really
Some attendees were complaining about the appearance of the British TV show present at FALL IN 05 as being a "pain in the butt", due to the space they took up and the events that got cancelled to accomodate filming a rather largish wargame with costumed reenactors playing the parts of Meade and Lee in the main ballroom of Ike 1.
Some people on TMP think the hobby has somehow been done a disservice for the alleged sin of using 40mm miniatures on 15mm terrain for the TV Shoot:
The show in question, "Global Trekkers" was erroneously depicted as being "from the BBC". A little googling shows that this is not the case at all. Global Trekkers is a commercial travel program, which appears to be a straight-to-DVD production from the website. They are part of the PILOT network which appears to produce theme oriented travel videos.
The modus operandi of the show is to take more or less pleasant looking people, fly them to exotic locales and have them appear as baffled doofuses as the soak up local culture.
Not exactly original, but it works.
This is not to say that the show never appeared on the BBC, but it really doesn't look like it has anything more to do with the BBC other than they are both British companies.
If you are interested in Global Trekker, the program's website is here:
http://pilotguides.com/tv_shows/globe_trekker/index.phpPersonally, I think any collaboration with a television program that will even mention a hobby convention on the air has GOT to be a good thing for the hobby, even if it looks slightly silly (e.g., Lee and Meade Reenactors. overlarge soldiers). The people that would be attracted to the hobby aren't going to blow off a con because of a little silliness.
Of course, that's just my two cents, worth what you paid for it.
